Her first sculptures were created from rusted steel fish barrels from Cannery Row in Monterey. She loved working with these rigid metals and was excited by the way they could be handled and re-sculpted using the fire from a welding torch. Her works were being featured in Nepenthe’s in Big Sur by the time she was 17. As a young artist, she traveled throughout Europe, experiencing first hand the great museums and the diverse art they held within their walls. These experiences set the stage for her life’s journey as an artist… a path that she has never regretted.

Rae’s serious study of art began with an opportunity to apprentice with the well respected sculptor, John Kennedy. She was able to develop her own unique style and realize communication is the key to almost everything; friendships, lovers, work, animals and nature. “When my work shows subtle communication between people, animals and nature, I feel that it touches my audience on a level that everyone can enjoy.”

She says the clay seems to melt itself into almost déjà vu

experiences. “It always surprises me when I see what’s happening with my people.” Her joy is to see that ‘smile of recognition’ when people view her pieces.

Her work has been influenced by several renown artists including Kennedy, Ramona Rowley and Beatrice Wood, (the Mama of Dada).

Deborah Mallott was born in upstate New York in the winder of 1952. From an early age she was exposed to creative arts from both her mother and father. Throughout her childhood she was encouraged to experiment with many different mediums from painting to textiles. She currently resides in Southern California.

Pamela Rae’s life was always surrounded by nature and animals as she grow up in Southern California. Pamela now resides in Southern California and appreciates the ocean and salt air that inspires her daily.

Mallot/Rae’s work is currently exhibited in several galleries in the United States and has been acquired by prominent collectors.
